The seed production of Barenbrug USA is done by experienced grass seed growers, carefully selected and supported by Barenbrug’s production agronomists. In the most qualified production area’s of Oregon, Barenbrug USA has its own agronomists to work with the growers and monitor the production fields for optimal seed yield and top quality seed.

Willamette Valley 

The worlds’ center of grass seed production, with Tangent, home of Barenbrug USA’s headquarters, as the unofficial capital of the grass seed industry. Probably up to 60% of the world’s grass seed production is done right here. Main species produced here are: 

• Annual Ryegrass

• Perennial Ryegrass (early maturing)

• Tall Fescue

• Fine Fescue

• Orchardgrass

• Bentgrass

• Red Clover

• Crimson Clover

Growers here are full time grass seed producers and have state of the art cleaning facilities. All growers deliver their top quality seed produced for Barenbrug USA in 50 lbs bags, certified and market ready.

Columbia Basin 

In this desert like area, seed production is only possible under irrigation. Large scale farming operations produce high quality seeds under very controlled conditions. A second advantage of the area is that seed matures about three weeks earlier than in the Willamette Valley, building in some spread in seed availability. This area has been developed for grass seed production by Barenbrug USA Production, a separate Barenbrug entity. Barenbrug USA Production provides a top quality cleaning facility at the Port of Morrow, Boardman. At harvest all contracted seed production is received in huge trailer loads, to be cleaned, bagged and certified for market.

Grande Ronde Valley 

This small valley tucked in the Blue Mountains of Eastern Oregon is a prime area for high quality Kentucky Bluegrass production. Its high elevation and hot and dry summers make it a poa annua (annual bluegrass) free area, ideal for top quality seed production. Barenbrug USA Production has been established in Imbler, the center of this valley, already since 1978 to benefit from this unique environment. Also here Barenbrug offers the growers the technical support and the storage and cleaning facilities. Barenbrug has two dedicated bluegrass cleaning lines available to clean the entire bluegrass production from both the Columbia Basin and the Grande Ronde Valley.
