Festuca pratense


Although very popular in Canada, meadow fescue is seldom used in the USA. This species deserves a better place in the USA forage market. It grows under cool, moist conditions, and tolerates wet and occasionally flooded soils. Once established, it also performs well under drier conditions for making hay or silage. On good soils, meadow fescue surpasses perennial ryegrass in summer production. Meadow fescue is also a good companion to grow with alfalfa.

 

Bartura

Bartura is one of the few truly improved meadow fescues available. It is a high yielding variety with good winter-hardiness and excellent disease resistance with early spring development.

Pradel

Pradel is an exciting new meadow fescue that outperforms other varieties in the Barenbrug screening trials. It is a late maturing variety, winter-hardy and high yielding. Pradel has endophytes that are animal friendly causing no problems with animal performance or palatability.
