Tangent, OR - October 5th, 2020:   The Royal Barenbrug Group announces today that they have finalized terms for the purchase of Simplot’s Jacklin® Seed business. The transaction, which includes a supply agreement between Barenbrug USA and Simplot Partners, is finalized as of October 2nd, 2020.   Barenbrug has been a global leader in the grass seed industry since 1904 and is the second-largest grass seed company and the largest family-owned grass seed company in the world. With operations on six continents, Barenbrug concentrates on leadership in the research, production, marketing, and sale of innovative grass seed products. Jacklin has been a frontrunner in grass seed production and processing for many years.

 

 

The combination of Jacklin Seed’s deep portfolio with Barenbrug’s vision, R&D, and industry leading market development will provide exceptional value to turf growers and distributors across the world. In particular, Jacklin^® Seed’s broad product portfolio and well-located grass seed cleaning plant and other facilities allow Barenbrug to continue to strengthen its Kentucky Bluegrass and Bentgrass seed portfolio and overall production footprint in key areas. It will reinforce Barenbrug’s position in the world’s largest grass seed market, the US and strengthen its position as the second-largest grass seed company worldwide.

 

Furthermore, the purchase includes a supply agreement between Barenbrug USA and Simplot partners. Simplot will continue to distribute grass seed in the Western part of the US through its wholly owned Simplot Partners distribution network, which will be partnering with Barenbrug to supply grass seed.
