Turf Product Manager- Job Description

 

The Product Manager’s primary responsibilities are to provide technical and agronomic support to the turf sales team as well as manage the product development pipeline for turf varieties. This position must be located in Tangent, Oregon and reports to the Turf Sales Manager. 

 

TECHNICAL/AGRONOMIC SUPPORT

 

  • Agronomic “Expert” for best practices, diseases and overall turf plant health
  • Work with Barenbrug USA team (including Canada) to create and coordinate 90-day needs 
  • Responsible for providing “blend templates” (based on best performance) for key technologies and brands
  • Work with sales team to develop customer blends and mixes
  • Responsible for strategic level of seed coating and sod programs
  • Develop and analyze reports and make recommendations
  • Provide proactive after-the-sale in-house technical support to customers via webinars, conference calls and meetings
  • Based on product needs, aid sales manager in requesting production needs

 

PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT

  • Manage and maintain product development budget
  • Manage product development pipeline
  • Place and oversee product development trials with cooperators
  • Have intimate understanding of variety life cycles
  • Contribute to future breeding goals
  • Collaborate with marketing team to define the go-to-market strategy, product positioning, key benefits, and target customers. Provide technical content for marketing communications

 

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  • Be a goodwill ambassador at Industry shows like STMA, GIS, TPI
  • Travel a minimum of 20%, including one international trip annually, territory visits, customer meetings, research sites, national shows, and events 

 

 DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

  • B.S. in a turf related discipline
  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite (primarily Excel) and Outlook  
  • Ability to balance and prioritize multiple projects with differing and/or competing deadlines 
  • Excellent time management skills 
  • Friendly, approachable, and professional attitude and social skills 
  • A proactive work ethic 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Able to work independently as well as part of a dynamic team 
  • Can be flexible in both schedule and duties
