Plant with Confidence

Our Master Series are specially formulated to offer your animals the ideal mixture of forage species and varieties for your needs. These blends have been put together by our forage-breeding specialists so you are able to plant with confidence.

Beefmaster® Pro

Beefmaster® Pro is a formulation of forage grasses and white clover. The formulation includes two modern grasses from our GetPLUS system, BarOptima +E34 and Remington +NEA2. In addition to these, Beefmaster Pro’s orchardgrass is late maturing, winter hardy variety that maintains its productivity even under close grazing. The white clover is an added benefit, allowing for extra gains and nitrogen fixation. Beefmaster Pro delivers highly productive, high energy forages that provides rapid weight gains.

Horsemaster® Pro

Horsemaster® Pro was formulated especially for horse pastures. We understand that horses and cattle graze differently. With this in mind, we developed Horsemaster® Pro. Different mixtures have been composed for different climates, but all mixtures include at least timothy, orchardgrass, and ryegrass. Horsemaster® Pro is guaranteed endophyte-free.

Dairymaster® Pro

Dairymaster® Pro is a mixture, formulated to provide a quality pasture ideal for all dairy applications. Dairymaster® Pro contains the best of all species: Two GetPlus modern grasses BarOptima +E34 soft leaf tall fescue, Remington +NEA2  perennial ryegrass, high energy meadow fescue, and late maturing orchardgrass. Dairymaster® Pro also contains red and white clover. That will fix nitrogen as well as improve protein and energy levels of the sward.

Stockmaster® Pro

Stockmaster® Pro is a multi-purpose pasture mixture. This formulation contains two GetPlus modern grasses BarOptima +E34 soft leaf tall fescue, Remington +NEA2 perennial ryegrass, late maturing orchardgrass, and newly developed variety of continental tall fescue. The multi-purpose mixture allows to be used even under less than ideal conditions. Stockmaster® Pro is a perfect mixture for smaller acreage fields that require a long lasting, high quality pasture. Stockmaster® Pro pastures may also be used for hay fields after establishment.

Browsemaster® Pro

Browsemaster® Pro, a new grass seed mixture, was specifically formulated for goat pastures. Browsemaster® Pro has the optimum combination of browse, forbes, and grasses to improve the meat and milk production in goats. Regionally adapted, this mixture is available for the transition zone and the southern United States. The primary component of Browsemaster® Pro is our high-quality chicory. Browsemaster Pro also contains red clover, alfalfa, and forage brassica varieties for protein and forage grass for digestible fiber.

Haymaster® Pro

Haymaster® Pro is part of our Master Series™ formulated for either a straight grass hay field or to mix with a legume crop to produce high-quality, high-performing hay. The varieties in Haymaster® Pro are selected for their quick, dry-down, ensuring the quality of your crop. It is an ideal grass seed mixture for hay production in the West. Reaching peak production in late spring and early summer, Haymaster® Pro provides growers the opportunity to swath hay in the dry season.

GET PLUS now included in select Master Series products!

Traditionally, forage grasses have been defined by two traits: yield and persistence. In GET PLUS, we also place a strong emphasis on a third trait; forage quality. Because forage quality has a direct effect on animal performance. Because forage quality directly effects your profitability.

After many years of research, we we able to incorporate all three of these traits into select varieties. The technology bringing this all together is E34 and NEA2, beneficial, non-toxic, fungal endophytes.

Beneficial Endophyte

Our researchers examined alkaloid profiles of numerous endophytes collected from around the world. They isolated many endophytes which lacked alkaloids known to be toxic to livestock. These selected endophytes were inoculated into different seed germplasm. From this research, we were able to select two beneficial endophytes, “E34” & “NEA2”.

The initial thing I noticed was that the first time I turned cattle in on BarOptima +E34 the cows ate right down the rows, there was no doubt they were selecting it, even over the wheat!

What is an Endophyte?

The most widely grown forage tall fescue in the United States is Kentucky 31, a cultivar released in 1942. The reason for its popularity is its stubborn persistence under extreme climatic conditions. The persistence of Kentucky 31 is attributed to the alkaloids produced by a fungal endophyte that grows within the plant. Unfortunately, some of these alkaloids are toxic to livestock and cause deleterious effects on animal performance such as elevated body temperature, decreased weight gains, lameness, lower pregnancy rates, and reduced milk production. Such livestock disorders are commonly referred to as “fescue toxicosis”. Kentucky 31 causes “fescue toxicosis”.

Our researchers examined alkaloid profiles of numerous fescues with endophytes that were collected from around the world. They isolated many endophytes from fescues which lacked alkaloids known to be toxic to livestock. These selected endophytes were inoculated into different soft-leaf tall fescue germplasm. The inoculated fescues were evaluated for their alkaloid profiles and endophyte stability. From this research, we were able to pick a beneficial endophyte, “E34”. Plants inoculated with E34 were hybridized with other elite germplasm and used to develop Baroptima +E34. Tested in numerous cutting and grazing trials, it has higher forage yields compared to Kentucky 31 and is just as persistent. Research shows it is significantly more persistent under grazing than endophyte-free tall fescue.

  1. Endophyte is a fungus found in seed
  2. As the seed germinates, the endophyte grows into the emerging shoot
  3. It stays in the base of the plant
  4. In spring, as stems form, the endophyte grows up into a new seed
